Bosses Face Court Over Permit Abuse
A local janitorial company was convicted of work permit and trade and
business violations and fined $4000, and another firm fined $2000 recently for
employing people without a work permit, which is part of the Immigration
Department’s ongoing campaign to clamp down on work exploitation. There are

Film crew shoots on location on the Brac
A documentary feature about drama and mystery on the high seas during the
first Golden Globe single-handed, round-the-world sailing race in 1968 will
feature one of Cayman Brac’s famous landmarks. A film crew from APF Films travelled from London to shoot footage of the
Teignmouth Electron, a rotting trimaran on the southwest shore of the Island

Dump encroaches on private land
The George Town dump is now taking up 20 to 30 feet of surrounding property
– areas that are not Government-owned. Additionally, owners of the surrounding
properties are not receiving payment for use of the land. According to Hon Arden McLean, Minister of Communications, Works and
Infrastructure, the dump has now “encroached on to the raw land surrounding

HSA makes monthly commitment of $220,000 for employee’s pensions
The Health Services Authority (HSA) is in arrears with payments to
suppliers and is having difficulties meeting some of its financial
obligations; however, it has placed an immediate priority on meeting
employees’ pensions payments. The $220,000 per month needed to meet payments on behalf of HSA workers to
