Prison Drug Bust
A prison officer has been arrested attempting to smuggle drugs into HMP
Northward. Speaking with Cayman Net News following the arrest of the
39-year-old officer, Prison Director, Dwight Scott said: “On Saturday 27
August, Intelligence Officers, working along with prison officers, apprehended
a prison officer who was trying to bring a quantity of vegetable matter
resembling ganja into the prison.”...

The Royal Navy comes to call
British Warship, HMS Cumberland, began a two-day visit to Grand Cayman on
Monday 29 August. HMS Cumberland is staying in the Caribbean Region for four
months. The Royal naval vessel is anchored off George Town Harbour, and held a
reception for local dignitaries, including H.E the Governor, Bruce Dinwiddy
when it arrived on Monday. HMS Cumberland is actually the sixteenth warship to bear the name...

Liquidators pursuing immunity
The Joint Official Liquidators of Segoes Services intend to pursue the
limited immunity for James Fontanetta, former president and director, in
exchange for information that would help find out what happened to the
millions of reportedly missing dollars from the alleged ponzi scheme of the

Premature baby loses fight for life
Sadly Baby Jo-Anna Gilzene lost her struggle for life last weekend and she
passed away at the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town on Sunday morning,
28 August, 2005. Baby Jo-Anna was born very prematurely at only 24 weeks old to Carlisea and
Jad Gilzene on 29 July. Baby Jo-Anna weighted a mere 1 lb. 7oz and although the medical staff here
were doing what they could, doctors said that the baby needed specialist
attention...

Person Of The Day - Hazel Campbell

Coming to the Cayman Islands over twenty years ago, Hazel Campbell said she
worked in one of Cayman’s most famous eateries. “In 1984 I came here and stayed
a little less than a year and I worked in Mr Wellington’s restaurant, Welly’s
Cool Spot. After that I went back to Jamaica and then travelled to the Bahamas
some time after and worked there for four and a half years.”
