Cubans Got Boat From Government Officer
Allegations that a group of Cuban migrants purchased a
boat from a senior government official have been brought to the attention of
the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) and an investigation is
likely. The allegations are included in reports gathered by American federal
agents for a murder investigation in the US surrounding the disappearance of a
Cuban migrant who left Cayman Brac 1 July 2004 with six other migrants..

St Ignatius ‘triumphs over Ivan’
St Ignatius KG-Year 6 School marked Ivan’s second
anniversary, by wearing specially printed T-shirts with the logo, “St Ignatius
Triumphs over Ivan.” Principal of the school, Jennifer Paul-O’Donnell said,
“We felt it would be a good idea to wear our T-shirts because it was one year
ago that Ivan struck. Also, other people are suffering what we suffered, (from
hurricane Katrina) so we saw it as an opportunity to help them.”...

The verdict of $28.8 million awarded to the Ritz Carlton
Developer, Michael Ryan owner of Humphreys against Fluor Daniel Caribbean, Inc
was set aside by a US District New York Judge and granted a new trial on 9
September. Civil litigation between Fluor Daniel Caribbean and Ritz
Carlton Developer, Humphreys (Cayman) has dragged on for over a year. On 23
June, a ten person jury awarded Humphreys $28.8 million...

Another vessel seized by DTF in drug smuggling attempt off coast
Officers from HM Customs CNET and the Drugs Task Force, (DTF)
are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrival of a Jamaican
canoe in Cayman Islands waters in the early hours of Sunday morning (11
September). A report was received from members of the public about a
suspicious vessel on the west coast of Grand Cayman. The occupant, a Jamaican national, was subsequently

Person of the Day - Angelo Elwin

Cayman Brac is so much like his own island of Roatan that
he doesn’t miss it too much, says Angelo Elwin. Mr Elwin is a pump attendant and
general helper at CB Motors, where he says he generally works eleven hours a day
Monday to Saturday and two hours on Sunday. “I love my job. It keeps me busy and
I love to be busy,” he says. He has been on the Brac for five years and says the
culture is a little different from home...
