clean-up
The Finance Committee has announced that almost $5
million will be allocated for the country’s on going clean up operation.
Getting the Cayman Islands cleaned up again is considered an important
environmental issue so the committee approved the cash from the special

Drugs destroyed in public burning
Thousands of pounds of ganja was burned at the George
Town, Grand Cayman Landfill on 13 September. This public burning of the
contraband substance is part of a required procedure that signals that the
material is no longer needed by the Courts as evidence. The Drugs Task Force (DTF) and Royal Cayman Islands
Police Service (RCIPS) had confiscated the drugs on varying occasions over a

Former President of CITA suffers injuries in motorcycle accident
Mark Bastis, the former General Manager of the Hyatt
Regency Grand Cayman, and President of the Cayman Islands Tourist Association
has been in a serious motorcycle accident in Monterey, California and is
currently in hospital in Intensive Care Unit. Samantha Bennett, the Human Resources Manager at the

Accused denied bail at extradition hearing
The defence for Michael Charles Lindsay did not fight the
extradition charges for him to be returned to the United Kingdom to face
charges of forging 32 cheques, at court on 12 September. The defence attorney, John Furniss,
however did request bail for the few days that it would take the British
marshals to arrive in the Cayman Islands...

Person of the Day - David Condron

Presently a volunteer at the Humane Society Shelter, David
Condron was also a waiter at the Lighthouse Restaurant, until the restaurant was
closed by Hurricane Ivan. Mr Condron spent the time back in England, where he
comes from, before coming back to Cayman at the end of June to work at the
shelter. “I like helping people, I like giving something back to the community,”
