Reminders of the past at Heritage Day

Tourists and residents alike turned up to see the
traditional Cayman activities at West Bay Heritage Day, on Wednesday, 2
November and enjoy the local delicious food. It was held next to Scholars Park
and apart from that tasty traditional food on sale, including conch, turtle,
whelks and lobster dishes, and of course, the sweet stall with all the
traditional heavy cakes, people braved the drizzling rain to see local
craftspeople...

Esso boss says company needs long-term licence to continue supplying fuel
Esso Standard Oil, one of two major fuel suppliers in
Grand Cayman, says it won’t be able to operate under a short-term licence if
that’s what the Government is considering in its suppliers licence renewal
plan. The Government said recently that it had set the ball
rolling on the issue, sensing that Esso and Texaco, the other main supplier,
would try to hold it to ransom as was the case in previous negotiations...

AIDS numbers low but complacency high
A health official says the true extent of HIV/AIDS cases
in the Cayman Islands may never be known despite the relatively low figures
being reported. Medical Officer of Health, Dr Kiran Kumar, said he is
happy to state that Cayman has only 36 people living with the HIV virus which
has claimed 25 lives since the first known case in 1985. “I feel the figures
are low and I am happy they are. Yet still I agree with some people that we
may never know...

For the past seventeen years, Mervyn Scott has worked in
