exploitation of foreign workers here, the investigation into complaints by
four construction workers from the Dominican Republic has moved forward. The

New Year’s first baby born early
Angelique Esther Hurlston was the first baby to be born in the Cayman Islands in the New Year to proud parents Ledis and Hardie Hurlston. “My wife was scheduled to have a C-section on 20 January, but on Saturday night she started having contractions and the baby was pushing to come out so we knew the baby had decided to come early,” said Mr Hurlston. “So we called the doctor and he said to come to the hospital.”...

Cruisers outnumber local residents

Cayman Islands’ population more than doubled temporarily in the first week of
January 2006 as over 60,000 cruise passengers visited the shores of Grand
Cayman, with a population of around 42,000 people. The local Port
Authority reported that some 26-ship calls, bringing in 63,780 passengers would

Matrix team returning for new tour of duty

of the ten UK police officers that came to the Cayman Islands in early October
2005, in the wake of the new Commissioner, ended their tours of duty in
December, however they are now set to return to Cayman early this year. Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) Commissioner, Stuart Kernohan,

Deputy
Principal of the Lighthouse School in Prospect, Carla Bodden, finds her job
challenging and rewarding at this school where children have special needs.
A mother of two, one of her greatest achievements at the school is the
grow-box programme where the students are taught agriculture. Ms Bodden,
