Labour Tribunal has refused to accept any more applications to waive overtime
pay for security companies. And the Employment Relations Department said it
will be investigating dozens of security companies, which have received
waivers from paying overtime to security guards, some making as little as

Weekend escape of Cubans solved
The 15 Cubans that escaped from a holding facility near the Fairbanks prison last Friday night on 7 January, did so through a boarded area on the compound according to Chief Immigration Officer Franz Manderson.
Sections of the compound were boarded up to house what were described as
“immigrants who were not given leave to land.” All 15 were placed back
into custody in a more secure facility...

Ministry of Tourism’s “Go East” initiative, which intends to create more
business opportunities in East End and North Side, is bearing fruit with the
proposed construction of Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the eastern districts.
The Mandarin Oriental group, which has 23 luxury hotels, has earmarked a
beachfront area along the Queen Elizabeth Highway in East End, Grand Cayman, for

Person of the Day - Shelly-Ann Jones
It was four years ago that she left her home in the Sunshine City of Portmore,
in St Catherine, Jamaica, to pursue her dream as a nail technician in Cayman. Although there are some long days, 25-year-old Ms Jones said, “This is what I like to do and one day I hope to own my own salon.”
