Dan Hodgins’ life as a sportsman started in the early 80’s when he qualified as a speed swimmer during trials in Saskatoon in aof Saskatchewan.
After this he played Water Polo for the Canadian team with whom he traveled internationally. His climax was competing in the Olympic centre of Colorado Springs in 1983 for trials ahead of the 1984 games in Los Angeles.
Borrowing from this experience he became a lifeguard for the next six years and later qualified as a lifeguard trainer. This was how in 1986 he came upon on the sport that he does up to this day, scuba diving.
In 1989 he moved to Grand Cayman teaching scuba diving, though still participating in the sport in his new home for the next two years. He then moved to Cuba and continued participating in the sport while coaching other scuba divers there.
In 1994 he moved back to Canada but settled in British Columbia’s Pender Island where he continued coaching and teaching deep sea diving. “We missed Grand Cayman a lot and that is how we decided to be flying here for six months during winter and going back to Pender Island in the summer for the next six months.” |
