Playmakers beat Future Sports Club 86-66 in a U-19 basketball game played at the Cayman Islands Basketball Association Court, Eastern Avenue on Saturday 10 October.
Playmakers started the game on a high note by scoring 20 points while Future made only 7 in the first quarter of the game.
Playmakers in the second quarter extended their lead by scoring 17 points against 12 by Future.
In the third quarter Playmakers were on 24, but this time Future had awoken from their slumber and settled for 22 points.
In the last quarter of the game, play was evenly matched with each team scoring 25 points.
Future Sports Club worked hard to remain afloat in the two last quarters; unfortunately they had too much water aboard to salvage their sinking boat.
Deputy Sports Director Collins Anglin said Playmakers had a great game as Neith Rheingold led with 32 points and 14 rebounds; Bruce Thompson added 22 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals; Peter Grant added 18 points.
As for Future Sports Club: Reyson Paniagua led with 16 points and 20 rebounds; Jarrett Terry added 20 points and 3 assists. Keon Bodden added 11 points and 3 rebounds; Future outrebounded their opponents 45-33 but were unable to capitalize as well as the Playmakers did.
In the game good talent was demonstrated with Peter Grant and Bruce Thompson of Playmakers sinking free throws with 100 per cent accuracy while Keon Bodden of Future had similar efficiency.
In the ladies U-19 league Lynx defeated Monarchs 46-27. Ironically Monarchs had started with a lead in the first quarter by scoring 10 against 8 by Lynx. However Lynx stepped up the game to score 14 against 3 in the second quarter. In the third and fourth quarters both teams scored (12-7) (12-7).
Letanya Thompson led with 19 points and 4 rebounds; Annique Holness added 9 points and 4 rebounds; Amber Watson added 5 points and 11 rebounds; The Lynx out-rebounded their opponents 31 – 20. Christina Mclean of Monarchs led with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Chloe Powery added 8 points and 6 rebounds. Games have been moved to the Arts and Recreation Centre at Camana Bay. |
