Members of the Key Leader group at the weekend event organised by the Kiwanis Club.

The Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman organised another successful Key Leader weekend from 16 – 18 October. Sixty students ages 14 to 18 years participated in the event. Among them were 7 students from the Cayman Brac High School.

His Excellency, the Governor, Stuart Jack gave the opening address.

“Participants learned the most important lesson of service leadership: Leadership comes from helping others succeed. The event fosters team work, leadership skills and positive, life changing attitudes in High School students,” Key Leader Site Coordinator Wiekert Weber explained.

“We are very grateful for the support received from our Gold Sponsor HSBC Bank (Cayman) and Silver Sponsors Butterfield, First Caribbean International Bank (Cayman) Limited, Sunshine Suites, Maples & Calder and Maples Finance whose significant contributions allowed the programme to be provided at no cost to participants,” Mr Weber said.

Kiwanis is a global organisation of volunteers changing the world one child and one community at a time.

There are five key goals aimed at by today’s young Key Leaders. First, personal INTEGRITY – doing the right thing; second, personal GROWTH – developing in mind, body and spirit; third, RESPECT – showing consideration for self, others and property; fourth, building COMMUNITY – developing relationships, in-family, national and global, to achieve positive goals; and fifth, pursuit of EXCELLENCE – expecting and achieving the best.
