According to the latest Cayman Net News online opinion poll, which asked the question: “Should the port facility be moved out of George Town?” a majority of local readers support relocation, although divided as to where.

A total of 527 readers responded to the poll using internet devices located in the Cayman Islands and, of these, an aggregate of 293 readers (55.6 percent) supported relocation of the port. Of these, 154 readers (29.2 of the total) favoured relocation to East End; 40 readers (7.6 percent of the total) favoured the North Sound; and 99 readers (18.8 percent of the total) favoured some other unspecified location.

Preferring to keep the port where it is currently located were 214 readers (40.6 percent) and 20 readers (3.8 percent) said they didn’t know.

Reader Kim commented, “They’ve damaged enough coral reefs and spent enough government money already.”
