West End Post Office on Cayman Brac was reopened Wednesday, 14 January, and mail operations resumed with normal business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
A media release from the General Post Office stated that this means postal operations have been shifted from Stake Bay Post Office back to West End Post Office. Therefore all West End, Spot Bay, Creek and Watering Place customers are now to collect their General Delivery at West End.
Additionally, all parcels, small packages and mail overflow will have to be collected at West End. However, packages that customers have received notice for collection that says “Collect at Stake Bay” remain the same.
Stake Bay opening hours have also returned to normal 8:30 am to 4:30 pm from Monday to Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 11:30 am.
Following damage caused by Hurricane Paloma, which struck the Sister Islands on 8 November, the West End Post Office, which acts as the main mail-processing centre for the Sister Islands, was closed until essential repairs could have been carried out. Spot Bay and Watering Place Post Offices were also damaged by the hurricane and remain closed while repairs continue.
Residents of the Sister Islands are reminded that all post office box renters will continue to have 24-hour access to a post box. Spot Bay, Creek and Watering Place Post Offices customers can access their mail at West End Post Office.
Customers who require another person to collect their General Delivery mail or packages should write a letter addressed to the Postmaster General authorising a particular person to collect mail on their behalf. This letter can be given to Cayman Brac’s District Manager at the West End Post Office. The letter needs to include a copy of the renter’s identification, with a signature. |
