Flashback: One Year ago...

Teacher’s Aides and Support Assistants of Cayman Brac were presented with certificates for completing the Professional Development Training Programme. The course was designed to familiarise Special Needs Support Assistants with a variety of strategies and materials that are appropriate to be used with Special Needs students.

On 1 February 2008, The Bracker and Little Caymanian reported that Teacher’s Aides and Support Assistants were presented with certificates for completing the Professional Development
Training Programme.

The event was held at the Heritage House in North East Bay in Cayman Brac on 25 January 2008.

The course was designed to familiarise Special Needs Support Assistants with a variety of strategies and materials that are appropriate to be used with Special Needs students. It included psychological theories and specific methodologies for academic intervention and behaviour management that will facilitate learning for mild to moderate high incident learners, who are placed in resource settings and regular classrooms.

Participants of the programme showcased their understanding for, and application of, specific basic principles in the psychology of learning, such as, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, speak and language difficulties.
