Hundreds of happy music lovers turned out on Saturday evening, 31 January, to hear a host of singers and musicians.

Admission was free, but all donations raised on the night went to the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman, which has been involved in the Cayman Brac recovery.

The music began as soon as the sun set, at about 6:00 pm and could be heard as far as Seven Mile Beach, thanks to a steady breeze. Things started off slowly, but as more and more people started to pour into the Paseo in Camana Bay, the crowd began to warm. The audience joined in the singing and soon more and more people jumped up to dance.

It was the Barefoot Man who got the crowd going. He was then joined on stage by the Brac’s own Andy Martin — AKA ‘The Cayman Cowboy’ – who drew loud applause from the many Brackers in the audience.

Mr Martin, who was born and raised on Cayman Brac, has often donated his time and performed at many concerts for good causes. On 26 January the retired merchant seaman was bestowed with the Cayman Islands Certificate and Queen’s Badge of Honour at Heroes Square. Over the past three decades he has recorded five albums.

The Brac Aid was sponsored by Camana Bay, Cayman Airways, Rooster 101-9, Rotary, Blackbeards, What’s Hot, and A1-Rentals, and Z99. 9.

Over $10, 000 was received in contributions from the crowd attending the concert, and organisers said additional donations were expected from vendors at the event.
