Sun 1:00 pm: Jet Flight to Cayman Brac
|
| Published on Sunday, November 9, 2008 |
Email To Friend Print Version | (JCS) Following Paloma, the first Cayman Airways commercial jet flight is scheduled to depart for Cayman Brac at 5:30pm this afternoon. This flight is already fully booked. However, the return flight will bring passengers from the Sister Islands. It will be a mercy flight and will board on a first come, first served basis, with the 6pm to 6am curfew on Cayman Brac being adjusted to accommodate check-in. PLEASE NOTE: The flight will only be possible if the Gerrard Smith Airport runway has been successfully drained and swept in time.
HMCI is strongly advising that only those who can assist with the recovery effort should travel to the Sister Islands. They should ensure that they have somewhere to stay, and that they are fully self-sufficient before leaving Grand Cayman.
A command centre has been established on Cayman Brac and will be led by District Administration. The NEOC on Grand Cayman as well as HMCI sub-committees will continue to support all recovery operations, including assisting persons who need to temporarily relocate to Grand Cayman.
Initial relief efforts for the Sister Islands are well underway: Relief personnel from the RCIPS, HSA and the Fire Service have already arrived there. Additional relief teams from Public Works, CUC and a telecommunication team from LIME, as well as damage assessment personnel will depart for Cayman Brac today. The RFA Wave Ruler has arrived in Cayman Brac and is assisting the recovery effort. | | | | Reads : 1481 |
