Business Person of the Week - Bobby Joseph

Published on Sunday, December 14, 2008Email To Friend    Print Version

Bobby Joseph

Born in Belize 37 years ago, Island Photo Managing Director Bobby Joseph used to spend summers in the Cayman Islands, ultimately deciding that “this was the place I wanted to be”.

He initially worked for Rapid Photo in Merren’s Plaza, and, eventually, he said, his chance came along: “The company was sold and so I thought this was the perfect time to branch out on my own.”

In 1997, he opened Island Photo in the Regency Court Building on Seven Mile Beach. “We were there for about five years,” he said. Things went so well that in 1999 he opened a second shop in Foster’s Airport Centre.

Mr Joseph eventually closed the Seven Mile Beach shop, moving full time to the Airport Centre and concentrating on building a base of local, loyal customers, who today are 95 percent of his clientele. Staff has grown from two people to five or six today.

“We are a full-service shop,” he said. “We handle both film and digital, and sell customer-friendly point-and-shoot cameras, frames and albums.”
