A high ranking public figure owing the National Airline the best part of $100,000 over the last three years may be, to some people, just a storm in a tea cup and feel that we should not cry over spilled milk.
Let’s get one thing straight, public figures and all civil servants who control the purse strings of the Government money are expected and should keep their private financial affairs in good order, because if they cannot control their private financial affairs what will become of their public financial affairs and what will they be risking.
Public figures and civil servants who have poor financial control of their private affairs are at risk and open to possibly committing wrong doings -- from taking second jobs and neglecting their public position, to taking bribes or getting involved in all sorts of illegal activity.
At the very least they are putting themselves at risk if only to have their laundry aired in the media and perhaps a lesson has been learnt in this case.
Don’t let anyone tell the public about storms in a tea cup because you will find that the water is boiling and someone will get burnt and it’s always the public that feels the pain.
