The Admiral Youth League continued last week with a two win performance from Academy highlighting the week’s competition. In order to catch up on lost time, Academy played two matches, the first on Tuesday 21 March against Future, and the second against Sunset on Wednesday 21 March.
In spite of the back-to-back matches, Academy gave very good account of themselves. In the first match against Future, the Academy squad went hard all the way, and moved into a comfortable lead as they dominated Future.
The Future offence seemed capable of penetrating the Academy defence, but could not find the back of the net, and found themselves slipping ever further behind their opponents. At the final whistle, Academy took a comfortable 5-0 victory, giving them a confidence boost ahead of their match against Sunset the following day.
Tired legs did not seem to trouble Academy in their second match in as many days when they faced Sunset on Wednesday 22 March. Academy retained the confidence they showed on the field against Future, and kept their opponents in check as they moved towards another win.
The 2-0 victory Academy claimed over Sunset moved the team level on points with second-placed Elite, although Elite still have a game in hand. On Thursday, Academy finally had a match-free day. Future were however on their second match of the week when they took on Bodden Town at Academy.
Seeming more in charge of their destiny than in their previous match, Future put up a good fight, and Bodden Town had to work hard to get past the Future defence. Although Bodden Town looked in charge through much of the match, they could only manage to find the back of the net once, with the league’s leading scorer, Jonathan Ebanks, adding another goal to his personal tally, taking him up to 11 goals scored.
The goal gave Bodden Town the win, which puts them in fourth position, five points adrift of third-placed Academy. Also on Thursday, league leading George Town SC took on bottom of the league East End at the Annex. East End did their best, but George Town kept up their momentum, and never gave East End a look in.
When the dust settled at the Annex, George Town emerged as 7-0 winners, keeping them comfortably at the top of the league, leading second-placed Elite SC by six points. This week promises one of the best clashes the league has seen yet, as Elite and George Town clash at the Annex on Wednesday 29 March.
On Thursday 30 March, Future and Sunset will meet at St Ignatius, while East End will continue their quest for a win when they take on Bodden Town at Academy Field. All matches are scheduled for a 4:30 pm kick off.
