It was a case of trying to overcome the challenges and persevering against all odds when Truth for Youth held their annual sports day on Thursday 23 March at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Participants competed in such favourites as the sack race, the beanbag race, and the egg and spoon race, although the organisers wisely decided to replace the eggs with lemons to limit the mess.
In the balloon race, some of the competitors found it hard to burst their balloons, but the officials were quick to lend a helping hand where needed, risking life and limb – but especially limb – to burst the balloons.
All competitors received participation ribbons, acknowledging the efforts of all the athletes. Although the day was all about fun, honour was also at stake in the inter house competition, with Challengers, Overcomers, and Perseverers doing their best to take the lead. After the completion of the final events, the ball throw and discuss, it was Challengers who took the win with a total of 389 points.
They were followed by Perseverers on 316 points, with Overcomers claiming third with 257 points. All the athletes went home proudly displaying their participation ribbons, and probably thinking what they would have to do to claim ever more ribbons next time around.
