Cara Barr

With an 11:34 time in Ironman Canada to her credit, Cara Barr scared quite a number of the top male triathletes when she arrived in Cayman late last year. After all, her time in one of the tougher Ironman triathlons out there was better than many of them could muster, and that is if they even had the guts to take on the gruelling event, that involves swimming 2.4 miles, cycling 112 miles, and running 26.2 miles.

Barr, who works as a portfolio manager at the Royal Bank of Canada, spends much of her free time training for triathlon, but with a very active triathlon community in Cayman, there are always people to train with. She is also a committee member of the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association, but even with all this to do she still manages to find time to go out with her friends and enjoy the beaches and warm ocean that Cayman is so famous for.

Quite a change from her home country Canada, where going to the beach is generally something associated with a long flight to a warmer climate. Barr is likely to be one of the top competitors at this weekend’s Brac Turtle Tri, and says that she will certainly enjoy competing somewhere other than her usual training haunts around Grand Cayman.

However, with a number of international competitors, as well as the best Cayman has to offer, Barr will have her work cut out for her if she wants to return to Grand Cayman with the title.
