LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Imbalance of power
Tuesday, April 11, 2006
Dear Sir:
Interesting letter by T Douglas regarding the positions of Chief Secretary and the Attorney General, in which the writer suggests the posts should be changed, as is the case for the Governor, every four years, especially if they are not indigenous Caymanians.
The suggestion makes sense especially when we have such a small community and the posts pull more power than any position taken up by a politician. The suggestion should extend to the position of Chief Justice with a change every four years.
All three high-powered positions, so I am told, are presently taken up by non- indigenous Caymanians and I believe from one country. Surely that is an imbalance of real power in the Cayman Islands. A situation that needs to be addressed in order to return power to indigenous Caymanians.
