Miss Grand Cayman Charm pageant

Friday, April 14, 2006

Marcia Borden winner of the ‘Miss Grand Cayman
Charm’ title
First runner up, Joy Connolly
Third runner up, Kenisha Zelaya

Marcia Borden, won the title of Miss Grand Cayman Charm beauty pageant on Saturday 8 April, at the University College Hall in George Town.

Each of the contestants were judged in different categories: ‘Panel Interview with Judges;’ ‘Casual Wear;’ ‘Formal Wear;’ and ‘Final Question.’

Each contestant represented the district in which they lived, adding to the excitement, as other residents from the district had come out to cheer their local beauty queen.

A group of models from Ice Models added to the glamour of the evening, coming onstage as the contestants changed into their gowns for the final stage of the show. ‘Faces Of Summer’ winner, Treveen Stewart, who has recently signed a contract with the prestigious New York model agency, Model Management, was among them.

According to the organizer of the Pageant, Dwight McLean, the pageant’s purpose is: “To help young ladies become more aware of their Island. It is also to provide a ‘pre pageant’ experience, and most of all, build up confidence in the contestants.”

Mr McLean explained he hoped this year’s pageant would be used to help to re-establish the once-popular District Pageants, when each district has the opportunity to choose their own beauty queen for the district, so that next year’s Miss Cayman Charm pageant will represent the culmination of the district pageant winners.

Apart from gaining the overall title of ‘Miss Grand Cayman Charm 2006,’ Ms Borden also won the title of ‘Miss Photogenic.’

Letha Rankin won ‘Miss Best Smile,’ and ‘Miss Congeniality;’ and Siobhan Williams won ‘Best in Gown’ and ‘Most Improved’ categories.

Third runner up was Kenisha Zelaya; the Second Runner up, Letha Rankin; and First Runner Up, Joy Connolly.

The overall winner of the pageant, Ms Borden will go on to represent the Cayman Islands at Miss City International or Miss Antilles International later on this year.
