Two decades patrolling Cayman Islands’ pools

Monday, April 24, 2006

The team from Pool Patrol celebrate 20 years
in business.

In April 1986 Pool Patrol began serving customers from a rented warehouse. The firm now describes itself as a leader in the swimming pool field.

The idea for the company was seeded when Mike Shield needed his own pool resurfaced.
He noted there were few people in the business in those days and the resurfacing was a painful experience with much feet dragging and many days where nobody showed up.

Mr Shield said he saw an opening and jumped in. He started with a service route of one pool – his neighbours.  At the end of 2 weeks he had 8 pools and at the end of a month 16 pools and his first employee.

From the beginning he said that he spent a lot of time training and to this day Pool Patrol requires all of its staff to become Certified Pool Operators.

As the business grew more and more pool technicians were trained and the fleet of vehicles grew larger.  A repair technician was sought to carry out the repairs.

Having outgrown the warehouse Mr Shield searched for a shop location which he found at North Sound Plaza where he purchased a unit from David Arch.

As the business continued to flourish more units were purchased as they became available. In 1993 four units were knocked into one and made into a showroom and offices. They were remodeled again in September 2004 courtesy of Hurricane Ivan, but Pool Patrol took the opportunity to completely redo the entire property, the current showroom and offices are the result.

Pool Patrol is a full service Pool Company with a truly dedicated staff, said Mr Shield who added that he currently has the best staff ever, they are all keen to learn and they do their utmost to completely satisfy every customer. He also said that Pool Patrol has had a wonderful 20 years and he is looking forward to taking care of Caymans Pool and Spa owners’ needs into the future.
