Healthy eating and camp for young Adventists

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Six young members of the Creek Seventh Day Adventist Church headed off to Little Cayman recently under the leadership of Zorida Powell, Assistant Health Ministries Director for a food seminar.

Mrs. Powell led out in a Health Seminar entitled “The importance of eating breakfast” at the Hungry Iguana Restaurant, which attracted 16 persons for the two hour programme.

Meanwhile, Audrey Williams, Director of Puppet Ministries for the Creek Adventist Church presented the devotional message. She used puppets to teach the children the advantages of eating more fruits in their diet.

Last month Mrs. Powell who is a qualified nurse focused on “The Sugar Story: Sweet or Sour?” during her first visit to Little Cayman.

On May 15, 2006 the Health Ministries Department of Creek and Berea Seventh-day Adventist Churches will sponsor a health fair at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Pastor Al Powell is the district pastor for the Creek and Berea Seventh-day Adventist Churches in Cayman Brac.

Meanwhile Pastor Reinaldo Dracket, Youth Director of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, coordinated the Annual Pathfinder Camp, which attracted over 143 boys and girls coupled with staff from around the Cayman Islands between 13 and 15 April. The Camp was held at the Agriculture Pavilion.

Some of the activities included a beach party at Cayman Kai, drilling and marching; camp song contest; coronation of Pathfinder King and Queen; craft and tent pitching. There were also lessons about mammals. 28 Pathfinders from Cayman Brac attended this year’s camp too.
