Hurricane Ivan still blamed for debris

Boatswain’s Beach Earth Day Roadside Clean up team

A team of 40 from Boatswain’s Beach were just some of the community spirited people who helped clean up Cayman this weekend in recognition of Earth Day, on Saturday, 22 April.

Partnering with the Chamber of Commerce efforts, team members were given gloves and heavy duty plastic bags to pick up trash and debris on North West Point Road. Items of interest collected included beer bottles, plastic, diving gear regulators, furniture, CUC and C&W cables, styrofoam, lumber scraps, zinc, cans, shingles, and car batteries.

“It was surprising to see debris, especially the larger items, which were thought to be remnants from Hurricane Ivan along the path but the team was up to the task and collected a total of 55 heavy duty garbage bags,” said Casandra Hibbert, General Manager of Marketing at Boatswain’s Beach.

“We look forward to participating in many more of these worthwhile causes in the future to help better our community.”

Boatswain’s Beach, is the new home of the world famous Cayman Turtle Farm and once opened in Summer of 2006 will feature two snorkel lagoons, a predator tank, free-flight bird aviary, nature trail, education center, two restaurants, and an authentic Caymanian Street with porch-side artisans making this attraction one not to be missed while visiting the Caribbean.
