At the invitation of Brenda Dawkins, of the Young Parents’ Programme, the first session of Etiquette was presented to a group of young mothers at the Young Parents school by the Young Business and Professional Women’s Club, a division of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Grand Cayman.

Joannah Bodden and Marion Pandohie opened the floor with a “Table Manners” presentation. Ms Bodden explained to the young mothers that table manners are an everyday part of life and play an important role in social interaction.

“A good understanding of proper table manners will give each person the confidence they need to feel comfortable when dining out with clients, a prospective employer, or even hosting a dinner in their own home,” Ms Bodden said.

The presentation consisted of an overview of a number of topics, which Ms Bodden spoke about and Mrs Pandohie demonstrated. The team covered posture, basic meal outline, napkin use and use of flatware.

Ms Bodden explained that her mother taught her a few of these valuable lessons and is delighted that she could share what she had learned with the young mothers at the YPP so that they too could be in a position to share with others.

Ms Bodden and Mrs Pandohie then answered questions and handed out a written summary and diagram covering a more formal place setting for the YPP members.

Charmaine Moss, BPW 2nd Vice-President and Young BPW Chairperson, provided the second segment: “Make-up Application & Hair Styles”.

Some topics discussed were: applying blush, using the right eye shadow, making shadow last, lining eyes, full eyes, lip liner and lipstick, and creating full lips.

Alexa Thomas, BPW Membership Officer closed with talks pertaining to “Personal Ethics.”

The discussions surrounded the following topics: personal agreements, treatment of others, humility, confidence, and achieving goals.

Ms Thomas closed by offering the club’s assistance either individually or as a group in order to attain personal goals, mentoring, and reiterated the clubs commitment to maintaining a relationship with the Young Parents’ Program.

The YBPW ladies in attendance Joy Coe; Stacy Bounds; Tesia Scott; Alexa Thomas, BPW Membership Officer; Marion Pandohie; Charmaine Moss, BPW 2nd Vice President and Young BPW Chairperson; Suzanne Look-Loy Immediate Past-President Young BPW, Joanna Bodden, President of the Young BPW Sexual Harassment and Stalking Task force reminded the young mothers to get along with their brothers and sisters.

The Business and Professional Women’s Club of Grand Cayman is a non-partisan charter group of the International Federation of Business & Professional Women founded in 1930. Its major goals remain: to foster world fellowship among women, to cooperate with regard to common interests and to work for high standards of service in their communities and to all nations.

Dr Margo Koeman introduced the club to the Cayman Islands in 1976 to enable Cayman women to access this world community. In Cayman, the BPW has assisted in providing services to enhance the well being of women and their families.

Among its first undertakings was the provision of counselling services in the various districts, dealing with such areas as financial, family, and health.
