Duker of the Week - Gwenda McLean

Tuesday, May 2, 2006

Gwenda McLean

Born in West Bay to Henry and Mary Rivers, Gwenda McLean received her Gold award from the Duke of Edinburgh in 1983.  In addition to the Gold Award, she attained her Bronze and Silver awards through the Girls’ Brigade Company in West Bay under the leadership of Betty Ebanks and Deborah Ebanks-Humphreys.

She says that the programme not only prepares young people for leadership roles, but teaches them perseverance and endurance.

She attributes her accomplishments to her involvement in the Girls’ Brigade organization and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and encourages all young people across the Island to become involved in the scheme.
