The Girls Brigade in Grand Cayman celebrated their 60th Anniversary with a special service at Savannah United Church, on Sunday 30 April. Present at the service was the founder of the Girls’ Brigade here, Olive Miller, who began the brigade in 1946. Mariko Jack, wife of H.E the Governor, Stuart Jack also attended the service.

The Service began with entrance of the Girls’ Brigade flag, and a call to worship.

During the service, a group of girls from different Girls Brigades throughout Grand Cayman sang the Girls’ Brigade song.

The highlight of the service was a long poem, describing just some of the events in the first 60 years of the brigade, that had been written and recited by Ms Miller, who as well as founding the Grand Cayman branch of the brigade, is also the Brigade’s current president.

Also during the service, Marjorie Beckles, Chairman of the Girls’ Brigade National Council, gave out certificates to representatives of different companies, so that they could distribute them to officers and leaders within their company.

Olive Miller presented Ms Jack with a Bouquet, and Ms Miller was presented with a bouquet, in return, by Ms Beckles.

Also, as part of the 60th Anniversary Celebrations, the Girls’ Brigade held a Dinner at the Marriott Hotel, for officers, both past and present, as well as other ‘friends’ of Girls’ Brigade.
On Saturday afternoon there was also a special Picnic for the Girls at Cayman Kai.
