Show & Tell this month’s end
Monday, May 8, 2006
The 2006 “Show & Tell Family Extravaganza” will be held later this month at the Pedro St James Castle, offering culture, fun and entertainment.
On Saturday 20 May, people of all ages may express themselves freely: wear your brightest shirt; your granny’s “wompas”, and a cowboy hat or dress like Hulk Hogan. Bring your pet iguana, a friend, and or your baby cousin. Enjoy the spectacles and shows; or get on stage and share a short story or song.
The event will be hosted by Fritzroy McPherson (of RunDown 2006) and Anya Christian (Miss Teen 1999), and will begin with a Fair at 4:00 pm, followed by a Talent Show and a Fashion Show at 6:30 pm. In addition to the “family-fun” theme, the event will feature outstanding examples of local culture.
There will be performances by top local musicians, actors, poets and comedians.
The evening will continue with two social events – one for adults, and the other for teenagers. Both of these parties will begin at 8:00 pm and end at midnight.
Additionally, there will be guest appearances by Miss Cayman Islands, Miss Teen Cayman Islands, Our Little Miss, the Miss Cinderella girls, SpongeBob Squarepants, Sir Turtle, “Click” - Cayman National Bank’s mascot, as well as a clown and other local characters.
Children will be able to learn local history during special tours of the Pedro Castle and enjoy the bouncing castle, while everyone will be able to see, sample and purchase local arts and crafts, food and souvenirs throughout the venue – from Cayman Islands flags to plants and trees. Various other treat and activities are also being added each day.
Another main attraction for children and teens will be the “Pedro Theatre,” where shows will be held for kids, in addition to during the Mini Fair and music videos (or a movie) for teens during the Teen Party. The Talent Show line-up includes local hip-hop squadron CBR, veteran rapper JG, belly dancer Meylys Swaby, R&B sensation Dellon Myles, reggae sensation Big J, rapper Sincere, hip-hop dance legends Main Source (Troy O’Neil & Gucci), comedian/actor Pumba and cultural actress Divini Bush.
Additional features include a ‘female’ exhibition boxing match by the Cayman Islands Boxing Association; and a Cayman-inspired Fashion Show hosted by local company “1-345 Ltd”.
Local deejay crew La Famila, DJ Marlon and a special guest deejay will entertain the crowd with the latest hip-hop, r&b, dancehall, soca/calypso, reggaeton, and top-40 music hits. The teen and adult parties will both feature music videos, special treats, a fog machine and glow bracelets for everyone.
Adding to the “Show & Tell” festivities are special prizes, which include a round-trip ticket to any Cayman Airways destination and a 3-day stay at Sunshine Suites.
Pre-paid tickets cost $10. Tickets purchased at the gate will be: $15 adults, $12 for teens, and $8 for children under 12years (child must be present at time of purchase). Tickets may be purchased from Reflections Mirco Centre, Winner’s Circle Sports and Funky Tangs.
