George Town Primary students get involved with the Earth Day Trash clean up at Smith Cove. |
Although the major recycling projects across the Island have been hard hit after the damage inflicted by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, efforts are being made once again to recycle.
Year 3 Students at George Town Primary School are currently learning all about recycling and as a special part of their studies the young students went on a field trip to the landfill recently to see how the some of the trash we all produce here in the Cayman Islands is recycled.
The children discovered that batteries, oil, wooden pallets, foliage, and metal could all be recycled. Afterwards, students journeyed to Smith Cove Beach to commemorate Earth Day.
Students formed teams scouting the beach for litter and took pride in the clean-up efforts.
The field trip was a good learning experience for the children as it demonstrated that recycling helps to keep our environment clean and healthy.
