LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Keeping the Sabbath in itself will not save you

Thursday, May 11, 2006

Dear Sir:

I write this in response to a letter in Monday’s paper from Mr Quincy Brown, entitled “Are Seventh Day Adventists Christians or ‘wannabe Jews’?”  While it was directed as an invitational to Ms Amanda Wright, I am led to reply.

Please allow me to give you an allegory: one day Truth was on his way to visit a small town in a far away country where the people were anxiously awaiting his arrival. It was a hot day as Truth continued on his laborious journey and as Truth came close to a local swimming hole, he decided to go for as swim.

But as we all know, where Truth is, Lie is not far away, and so Lie being the opportunist that he is, noticed Truth’s clothing hanging on a tree nearby.  Lie takes off his dirty, scarlet rags and puts on Truth’s perfect white garment.

Truth comes out of the water and immediately realizes that his clothing was gone and left behind was Lie’s rags.  Being Truth, naturally he would not wear Lie’s clothes.

Moments later, the people of the town noticed drawing nigh to them was what appeared to be Truth, nonetheless, some Elders drew nigh and examined and then declared, that’s not Truth… that’s Lie in Truth’s clothing!  Just then another young man shouted as the Real Truth drew nigh… Look the Naked Truth!

And here it is… the Naked Truth: Isaiah 66:22-23:

(22) “As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,” declares the LORD, “so will your name and descendants endure. (23) From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the LORD.

Seventh-day Adventists believe that God (That is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit), who was before time began, who created all and from whom all blessings flow and will remain forever, blessed the Sabbath day and made it Holy.  Not a man-made tradition, but a God blessed day.  We know also, that what God blesses, he blesses forever.

(27) Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD, and it shall be blessed for ever. 1 Chronicles 17:27

It is clear to see that which was blessed in Genesis, is to remain even in the New Heaven and the New earth forever... when this old earth and all evil has been destroyed! Praise God and Amen.

For the record my good friend and brother, keeping the Sabbath in itself will not save you.  That which saves was done by Christ on the cross.

May God bless you in a special way.

Respectfully,
R. Dilbert
