The Stamp Advisory Committee

The Stamp Advisory Committee is asking the public if they would like to see on a stamp someone who has helped to shape the past or present of the Cayman Islands, whose path has been filled with greatness, who has been a trailblazer, an innovator, a doer. The criterion is that the person selected should have been deceased for at least 10 years. The categories are maritime, architecture, science, environment, health care, politics, sports, arts, and performance. The public is asked to send names and a brief explanation about each name submitted to Stamp Advisory Committee Secretary Nelva Ebanks at the General Post Office, or email nelva.ebanks@gov.ky, by 8 June, 2006.

Jurors

Jurors for the current session of the Grand Court are not required to attend on Wednesday 31 May 2006. Jury duty has been re-scheduled for 5 June 2006 at 9:45 am.

Barbeque Fun Evening

McCoy Prize Art Exhibition 2006

The McCoy Prize art exhibition has begun, and will remain open to the public until Friday 28 July. Viewing times will be 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Art Magnet

Are you middle-school aged, love art, and feeling lonely, or in trouble?  The National Gallery’s State Street-sponsored Art Magnet is a FREE programme for middle-school aged, children who have love art and are between ages 10-12. Flood & Storm Surge Mitigation Project

The International Ladies’ Club

Art Sisters

The National Gallery’s Dart Foundation-sponsored Art Sisters uses art as a method of healing for female victims subjected to any kind of abuse.  Through artistic expression, women can find inner peace and strength. The “Summer Overture” concerts previously advertised to be hosted by the Cayman National Choir & Cayman National Orchestra for 7 and 8 June have been postponed until September.

National Museum’s Gift Shop

The National Museum’s Gift Shop has returned to its regular days of opening, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm; Saturday 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. All proceeds go to the Museum’s Recovery Fund.

Women’s Quilting Ministry

The Women’s Quilting Ministry meets to make quilts for the less fortunate from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Monday evenings at the Church of God Chapel on Walkers Road, Room 4 Chapel Fellowship Hall. Art Volunteers Needed at National Gallery

Assistants are needed, especially on weekdays, to volunteer for the many programmes and events offered by the National Gallery and the Gallery’s new Educational Centre. Residents with free time, and an interest in creative arts, are encouraged to become volunteers. In addition to shaping young minds, other benefits of volunteerism include use of the Gallery’s studio and locker space for art supplies. The Pink Ladies Volunteer Corps

Would like to inform the public that their Pink Hibiscus Coffee Shop located at George Town Hospital has been relocated within the Hospital. It is open five and a half days a week and situated in the old X-Ray Department opposite the Mental Health Department just along from the Women’s Centre. School Speed Zones

Newly installed school speed zone warning signs have been activated at the Red Bay Primary and Savannah Primary schools. Motorists are asked to take note of this. Police presence will be on both sites during the relevant times to ensure that the public adheres to new zones.

Conch and Lobster Seasons & Fishing License Reminders

The Department of Environment and Marine Conservation Board wishes to remind the public that a fishing license is required for work permit holders who wish to fish from shore for consumption.

Applications for annual or monthly fishing licences can be obtained from the DoE’s office on North Sound Road. The DoE would also like to remind the public of the parameters for the lobster season which is now closed until 30 November 2006 and the conch season, which will close on 1 May through to 31 October 2006. For further information on these parameters and on the Marine Conservation Laws and seasonal restrictions, please call 949-8469 or go on-line at www.gov.ky.

National Gallery’s Little Artists Programme
