World Cup ticket winners Dyke Greene (second from left) and Bernadette Marinas (second from right) are congratulated by CIFA President, Jeffrey Webb (left) and Progressive Distributors Marketing Executive, Maureen Cubbon (right).
With World Cup fever building, two lucky local football fans will be heading to the World Cup in Germany, courtesy of local companies Progressive Distributors and Western Union, along with the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA).
The two lucky Cayman residents won match tickets and all expenses-paid trips to the World Cup in Germany, following a six-week promotion by the companies and the popular brands they represent.
The winners, Dyke Greene and Bernadette Marinas, were drawn from thousands of entries this past Sunday at the finals of the CIFA/Foster’s League Football series at the Annex Field in George Town. The winning entries were drawn by young Caymanian footballer, Joseph Tatum, whose image appeared on the promotional material for the competition.
The CIFA/Western Union/ Progressive Distributors competition gave customers a chance to win the coveted prize with their purchase of products by Gatorade, Tropicana, Quaker Cereals, Hunt’s Snack Packs, Orville Redenbacher Popcorn, and Listerine from Foster’s and Kirk’s supermarkets, or with money transfer transactions from Western Union.
“This is truly a dream come through for me. I have always wanted to go to the World Cup and now I have that chance,” said Mr Greene, who made his winning purchases from Kirk’s Supermarket.
Hardly able to believe her good fortunate at first, Ms Marinas, who won through a Western Union transaction, later said: “It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I look forward to the trip.”
CIFA President, Jeffrey Webb and Progressive Distributors Marketing Executive, Maureen Cubbon, were on hand to congratulate the winners. Mr Greene and Ms Marinas are set to leave for Germany on the 20 June and will be staying for a week during which they will be attending the Group E first round match between the USA and Ghana in the city of Nuremburg.
