The Self Help Community Foundation and Coutts bank hav recently lent a helping hand to the National Recovery Fund (NRF) through donations.
The Self Help Foundation CEO, JC Connor and Chairman James Myles gave $1000 to Executive Director of NRF, Dr. Mark Laskin.
The money came from the proceeds of the Youth Arts Exposition which is a fundraising event put on by the Foundation annually. Last year's art exposition provided funds that went towards helping the disabled.
"The Foundation's aim is to help people help themselves and we recognize that it is impossible to do that if their basic needs such as housing are not met," Mr. Myles said.
The Self Help Community Foundation is also engaged in a "youth empowerment programme" that provides scholarships to deserving students. The foundation also provides assistance to 'late bloomers' taking on GED studies.
"This donation to the Recovery Fund represents what the Foundation is about - to help people, and is our way of helping our community's rebuilding efforts," said Mr. Connors who also expressed his thanks to all of the sponsors who donated to the foundation to make the arts exposition a success, thus making their donation to the NRF possible.
Dr. Laskin thanked the Foundation for their support and said that it would help in meeting areas of need, particularly for families with young children.
One of the many large corporations to help the NRF, Coutts, also made a generous contribution recently.
New Managing Director for Coutts David Neuschaffer, and Chris Burton, CEO of Coutts Offshore, handed over the check to Fund Director, Dr. Mark Laskin.
"We are proud to make a contribution to support the hard work of the NRF," said Mr. Neuschaffer. "We recognize that there is still a long way to go but we acknowledge the tremendous efforts of the Fund in this rebuilding process."
