LETTER TO THE EDITOR

The destruction of our Island

Tuesday, June 13, 2006

Dear Sir:

I was searching the web to see where my family would go for our holiday, when I happened upon a letter from Ms Jane Erea, a Caymanian.

I was shocked by her reference between locks and ganja. She should have just said all people of the African race are criminals. What self-hatred. If we look at our children and judge them by what they wear and what style of hair they have, then who will save our children. She talked about the old way; I can only imagine what the old way was.

The old way for all people of colour, no matter where you were in the world, was subservient; except for our Mother Africa. Is that the life she envisioned for future Caymanians?

Just because of one person's ignorance I am not going to totally dismiss the Cayman Islands as my family's holiday. As for Ms Erea of the Cayman Islands, if she happens to see a very dark, beautiful lady with long brown locks, and a very tall man with beautiful salt and pepper locks flowing down his back; that would be the Johnsons from American, PhD and MD respectfully, thank you very much.

Oh and our two sons; the oldest twenty-five graduated last year with a degree in chemical engineering, our youngest 23, just graduated, pre-med, on his way to Harvard Medical School. To my knowledge our sons have never smoked ganja, nor have their parents.

One piece of advice to all the Ms Ereas of the Cayman Island; "Urya incuti ukinovora intuntu".

Peace and the blessings,

Gloria Johnson, PhD
USA
