Marcela Martinez - Ebanks Senior Laboratory Technologist | Water is a necessity of life but it's quality and reliability are even more cherishing to mankind.
One such person who ensures that the Cayman Islands receives the best quality water everyday is Marcela Martinez-Ebanks.
"When someone turns on their tap at home to find quality water that pleases us, we make sure we give them the very best water," she said.
Mrs Martinez-Ebanks has been working as a Senior Laboratory Technologist at the Water Authority-Cayman in Grand Cayman for the past six years, but she joined the company in 1995.
Twice daily, she is involved in quality control checks for the three plants on the Island, making sure water distribution meets the standards of the World Health Organisation and others.
She also has responsibility for wastewater testing and monitoring bacteria content at the George Town Harbour and the North Sound in conjunction with the Department of Environment.
Her other roles in the company's laboratory are the regular checks of testing equipment to maintain quality assurance of international standards.
Apart from the technical side of her work, she is thrilled to host kids on school trips.
"I love the kids when they come to visit, their expressions are so exciting, they call our work the magic trick," she said.
Mrs Martinez-Ebanks holds a BA in Chemistry from Union College in Nebraska, United States, and has level-two certification in water laboratory analysis.
Eleven years ago, the Water Authority of Grand Cayman hired her as a Laboratory Technician.
