Refreshing our Vocabulary

The first word is 'bigot'. It sounds almost like the biblical 'begat'. However these are two different words in spelling and meanings.
A bigot may begat. Conversely many bigots have been begat. A bigot is one whose prejudice is sustained by intolerance for differing views. It does not matter whether the different view is informed by reason, logic, and possibly reality.
Prejudice is for some, a life source. It gives sustenance to nonsense, and it provides bliss for the ignorant. G. K. Chesterton suggests that, "bigotry may be roughly defined as the anger of men who have no opinions." Edwin Chapin maintains that, "bigotry dwarfs the soul by shutting out the truth."
It is sad when the mind becomes diseased with bigotry. Someone once noted optima corrupta pessima: the best things corrupted become the worst. This can happen to the mind even as it sails on into religious dogmatism.
The next word is 'arrogant'. This is an adjective which Thesaurus defines as, "overly convinced of one's own superiority and importance: haughty, high and mighty, insolent, lofty, lordly, overbearing, proud, superior, prideful, and supercilious."
The noun is 'arrogance'; and the adverb is 'arrogantly'.
Arrogance is more a profession than a hobby these days. Without it many would not survive. Their days would feel empty. We would however do well to move away from this scourge. It too is a tonic for prejudice.
Who are the more likely victims of bigotry in the Cayman Islands? Who are the more likely practitioners of religious bigotry and prejudice in the Cayman Islands? In which group do you find yourself, if any?
Is it sufficient for us to just refresh our knowledge of a subject or should we be moved into action? Would it not prove beneficial if more church bible studies were geared towards love, compassion, forgiveness, and community?
The best things corrupted become the worst. Sometimes the church is filled with corruption because its members live as agents of the devil. They sit idly by as the evil of discrimination prevails.
Who will cry out for the balm in Gilead? Who will say, "Let my people go." Who will lead God's people into the promised land of righteousness, justice, and peace?
Lest we forget, Hitler's holocaust was driven by 'religious ideals.' Lest we forget, the Church's abominations and apostasy were seemingly driven by 'religious ideals.'
Have you seen those committed ones who show their protest carrying placards at military funerals in the United States? They actually believe what they have written on these signs.
Much of their wisdom is also encouraged by their pastors. When nonsense meets religion stupidity reigns supreme!
The smarties who tell grieving mothers that it is God who killed their sons are no different from some religious zealots who go to the George Town Hospital and pray thus: "Lord, I want you to shack him. Tell him that you is Lord. Make him more uncomfortable until he give his life to you.
Chastise this family Lord until they come to know you. Make this patient roll in him bed until he confess you as Lord. Oh yes! Thy kingdom come. Move him. Move him. Hamen han hamen."
Does freedom of religion necessarily prevent the hospital from promoting the health and well-being of patients by sparing them the indignity and insult of such confused fanatics? Does freedom of religion give license for freedom of prejudice, bigotry, and plain stupidity?
The interesting thing about nonsensical behaviour is that it is never limited to a particular religion, denomination, or faith group. Its borders are without limits.
Finally, may we remember that the first word in prejudice is 'prejudge.' It is a prejudgement based on no informed decision.
Let us beware.
