Olympic Day 5k set for Sunday
Wednesday, June 21, 2006
On Sunday 25 June, the world as represented in the Cayman Islands will come together once again for the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee's annual Olympic Day Run/Walk, presented with the assistance of Phoenix Athletics Club.
Entry into the five kilometre event is free, and participants are encouraged to wear clothing that represents their country of origin, whether it be full traditional dress, a flag, or national symbol.
With more than 100 countries represented in Cayman, it will be interesting to see how many can have a presence at the event.
Organisers are also encouraging participants to bring along their (leashed) four-footed friends - German shepherds, Rhodesian ridgebacks, Scottish terriers, Irish setters, Mexican chihuahuas - or come carrying their cats - Manx, Persian, Siamese, Russian, Egyptian - to extend the international flavour of the day beyond the human participants.
From Australia to Zimbabwe, everyone is invited to come out and showcase the full diversity of people in Cayman.
Even though entry is free, participants will be presented with race t-shirts, certificates of participation, and refreshments. Performance awards and random prizes will also be handed out.
The start of the event is scheduled for 5:00 pm, with registration taking place from 4:00 pm at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
