Michelle Boyle, the lucky winner along with Marcus Cumber from Island Air, Matthew Luke from St Matthew's University and Neil deVere from Ktone.
Ktone, Grand Cayman's information service provider, of SMS messaging to cell phones, has acquired over 150 new users; all students form St. Matthew's University. Ktone worked with the University and Island Air to sign up new and existing students from the university, allowing them to receive information from Government Information Services, regarding Severe Weather/Disaster Information and Crime Watch alerts.
With the new St Matthew's students arriving on Island on 1 May for the start of the new semester and the hurricane season underway, Ktone felt it was important for these students to be provided with as much information about the Island as possible.
Helping them settle on Island and identify with what is happening around them, while they study here.
Helping support Ktone sign up and welcome the new students to the Island, Inter-Island Air Service - Island Air - offered the students the chance to win a day trip to the Sister Island, Little Cayman.
The winner will travel on the Island Air charter flight and receive a two-tank dive when they arrive in Little Cayman, all courtesy of Island Air.
For the start of each new semester, St Matthews's University hosts their traditional welcome barbeques for the new semester students, at the residences. On 4 May along at the residences, Ktone and Island Air ran a competition, where each new student signing up to Ktone was entered in to win the Little Cayman day trip with a two tank dive traveling with Island Air. At the end of the evening the lucky winner was drawn: Michelle Boyle.
Marcus Cumber from Island Air came along to present her with the prize.
"Island Air enjoy taking part in events such as this one at St. Matthews University, as it allows us to gives the students a great opportunity to visit our sister Islands and see more of Cayman while they are studying here," said Mr Cumber.
Island Air has run competitions similar to this in the past and which have always been a great success and enjoyed by all involved.
Ktone approached St. Matthew's University regarding the sign-up of the new students, as they felt the students were one of the key target groups in Grand Cayman to receive information for the Government Information Services.
"I felt it was important to offer this service to the students of St. Matthew's especially around this time of year, as it is vital for individuals new and old to the Island, to not only be prepared for the hurricane season ahead but to be kept up to date with any related information," said Ktone's managing director Neil DeVere.
