LETTER TO THE EDITOR
We are not headed in the right direction
Monday, June 26, 2006
Dear Sir:
Cayman has paid a $376 million price for the PPM and UDP parties in four short years. Political parties have wrecked the other Caribbean Islands because of their near absolute power and Cayman will be the same if the parties are left unchecked.
And political parties will continue to do so because of ìnon-governmental knowledgeî. We believe it is harsh and not very conscionable to inflict taxes especially on the poorer Caymanians indirectly who are now trying to recover from Hurricane Ivan to justify a $32.5 million surplus, but again that is ìonly our opinionî. Where do we get off passing our opinions in the running of ìa non-sense Governmentî in these days? Well, not very far, do we?
There are few independents views ó mainly the partyís view which may be heavily influenced by party members who are not elected legislators and who the public never voted in and apparently has a lot of influence in the running of the government.
This is only the beginning ó for example the two government administration buildings (why two now?) will cost $74 million. And where and when will we be accommodating the staff to be working in such LUXURY of accommodations? Or are we just trying to show-off with the debts we are running the Islands into?
We hope the United Kingdom considers the ramifications of these massive borrowings and large debts. But they are not the slightest interested in that either, ever since the former LOGB was running his mouth in previous incidents and almost caused a desertion of the Cayman Islands by Britain, who now seems to have very little interest in what happens in the Cayman Islands which are owned by them.
The total public sector debt estimated to rise from $365 million to $486 million and there is $130 million of unfunded pension liability making a total of debt and liability of $615 million ($615,000,000).
This is frightening, but just hold on ladies and gentlemen, there is but more to come, so just remain cool, calm and collected as this progresses, and Mr Bodden and Mr McLean will not be the ìonly victimsî of this ordeal and even though you guys are in a very wealthy state, there are poorer families that will take the brunt much harder that you will.
Yes we are not really headed in the right direction, Mr Bodden and Mr McLean, and your knowledge of this situation seems very mature, but is there a solution for the problem?
Well I can hardly think ìnotî, until the situation becomes so volatile and we are put into circumstances like over there in Sri Lanka then there might be some changes that will take place occasionally.
Thank you Mr Bodden and Mr McLean for expressing the transparency of this ordeal and we do hope that that will open at the least a few Caymanian eyes and minds to a greater extent.
