Mascot breathes some fire into bank's on-line campaign

Friday, June 30, 2006

Vern the Orange Dragon is appearing at a Butterfield Bank near you.

You could be forgiven thinking the only Dragons here in the Cayman Islands were blue, but if you pay a visit to Butterfield Bank you may just find an orange one.

Known to his friends as Vern, Butterfield's mascot has been making his way around the island recently.

As part of Butterfield Online's 5th Anniversary, Vern will be visiting the Bank's branches on Fridays in June and July and handing out mouse pads and pens to customers.

Not only that, but the Bank is also giving away an Eastern Caribbean cruise for two this summer. The contest is open to all Butterfield Online users and runs until July 31st. To be eligible to win, users must log in to the service at least once during this period for their chance to win.

Butterfield Online allows users to check their balances on accounts, review transaction history and complete internal transfers. They can also order bank drafts, fixed deposits and wire transfers, pay their utility bills and more.

The bank said new features are continuously being introduced to Butterfield Online. Most recently, users have the option to utilize the export activity option, which allows them to export all the fields on the detailed transactions screen into a spreadsheet or Microsoft Money format. A user maintenance option is also available now.

This enhancement allows the account administrator for corporate accounts to reset all the sub-users' passwords and secret codes.

The bank also noted that Butterfield Online uses the highest level of security encryption commercially available. It is free to sign up and most transactions cost less than conventional paper transactions.
