Rugby players take up cricket for charity
Friday, July 7, 2006
This Saturday, 8 July, the Rugby Club play the Village Greenies in their Annual Charity Cricket Game at the Smith Rd Oval. The match starts at 2pm.
This year all proceeds go to the family of Pete O’Neill who tragically lost his battle with cancer last week. If the family requests it, proceeds will be made to local cancer charities in Pete’s name.
Donations can be made on the day, or by making a direct deposit into the CRFU Butterfield Account (02101-037637). Please write “Pete” in the reference field.
A donation of $30 (or a case of Heineken) will be turned into $72 through bar sales.
Come down and enjoy an afternoon’s Cricket. The format is the same as last year, 24 overs per team with everyone bowling two overs and batting for four. The rules are designed to encourage lots of big hits and exciting action (no tea and biscuits here).
Of course food and drinks will be available throughout the day.
Last year the Rugby Club had a famous 20 run victory and the Greenies are still smarting about it. Although Greenies are the favourites this year the rugby players intend to give them a run for their money.
