Career of the Week

Friday, July 7, 2006

Kenisha Morgan,
Information Officer

There are many routes to a dream career but to begin to write story books as a child is phenomenal and rewarding.

“From a very young age I used to write these little storybooks for my parents, it’s not surprising to them that I have ended up in the field that I am in,” says Kenisha Morgan.

About two months ago, the Government Information Service (GIS) contracted Ms Morgan as an Information Officer.

After five years of working as a public relations and marketing officer for the Cayman Islands Football Association, she opted for a public service career.

Her tasks include writing speeches for ministers, writing press releases for ministries and other government related bodies, and producing public education campaigns among others.

An Information Officer has an interesting job, according to her: “Everyday, a new ball is thrown at you and I like what I do. The whole job is a package for me.”

To those interested in a PR career, Ms Morgan, who said she likes to work with languages, says:

“If you have a journalistic interest mixed in with some PR, like writing or like being out in the field mixing with people and expressing yourself through language, this is the perfect place to be,” she added.

“They’re a very interesting bunch to work with and they make it comfortable. We help each other, we’re a team,” she says of her GIS colleagues at Cricket Square in George Town.
