Michelle Carter
Marketing Assistant

INITIALLY she went to Canada to pursue studies in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Waterloo but then Michelle Carter said she lost interest in that field.

She returned home to the Cayman Islands to find that her true love was in fact marketing, and Ms Carter decided to follow that career.

To achieve her goal, she enlisted at the University College of the Virgin Islands (UCCI) and is in her third year of studies.

Ms Carter works as a Marketing Assistant at Tower Marketing in George Town where she practises her trade under the guidance of senior personnel in the field.

Her responsibilities include writing press releases for the internal and external markets, liaising with clients, and performing marketing and administrative tasks under supervision.

"I'm doing press releases for the Caribbean, the UK and the US and it's pretty exciting," she said.  "It was a 'make sure I like it type of job' but I have enjoyed it and I'm getting better at it."

Ms Carter said it is very interesting to learn about the impact that marketing has on businesses all over the world.

"It's interesting to see how much marketing affects and how much advertising affects a business growth," she said.

"I have seen businesses not do very well when they have not done enough marketing and other businesses done too much and had the same problem."

She added: "You have to find a balance between what's right and what's wrong for that company and that's what our job is all about."
