Leaping over the opposition

Now in the 12th week of play, the Digicel men's indoor football league saw six tough games fought out at the King's Sports Centre over two evenings.

Monday 10 July started with the Royals FC taking on CML Claymores. Royals played a bad tempered match, with players frequently challenging the referee's decisions, ending in four-all draw.

Royals Erwin Kormosh scored a hat trick, reinforcing his place as the league's top scorer, with Floren Gudea putting one in to make the four. Claymores' Christian O'Malley Sutton, James Corner, Des Ebanks and Kris Beighton scored a goal each.

The 8:00 pm game saw RC Lions pitted against PricewaterhouseCoopers. Lions emerging victorious after high-scorer Antonio Pereira put two past PWC and Dwayne Campbell added the third. PWC replied with two goals from Matt Clingerman.

The final game put KPMG and Maples & Calder on the pitch. Giles Kerley's hat trick for KPMG plus a single from Chad Rafoos comfortably beating the single goal by Jeremy Seymore for Maples & Calder.

Wednesday 12 July started with KPMG returning to the pitch, this time against RC Lions. In a tight, low scoring game KMPG added to Monday's win. Two goals from Fernando Beckles and Brian Braggs beating the one scored for Lions by Oneal Taylor.

Next Cable & Wireless were matched against PricewaterhouseCoopers in game possibly more notable for penalties than scores. In the end C&W prevailed with Sheldon Hoppins scoring two and Floyd McKenzie making the total three against a single goal from PWC's Matt Clingerman.

In the last game of the week Royals faced Maples & Calder. Maples & Calder romping home to a 5-1 victory after Jeremy Seymore and their Captain Des Chisholm each scored two goals with Ronan Guilfoyle making it five. Royals managed a goal from Patrick Virgo but had O'Neal Spence red carded for a foul.

In the league standing Butterfield remain at the top despite not playing this week. KPMG's two wins gained them two places. On paper MCM Consulting suffered a three-place but drop but they had no games this week, leaving the only real loser PWC with a drop down to ninth.

Top goal scorer, Royals' Erwin Kormosh, remains unchallenged. Down the table PWC's Matt Clingman rises six places to seventh and Claymores' James Corner also made a leap in the standings to 11th.

Next week's highlight - on Wednesday 19 July at 9:00 pm the two Ritz-Carlton teams go head to head when the Royals take on the Lions.
