A GROUP of over 30 high school seniors and college students from Indianapolis, Indiana were recently in Grand Cayman taking a week out of their summer holiday to assist with various community projects.

They were part of Youth for Christ International (YFC) and were guests of Youth for Christ Cayman.

During their time in the Cayman Islands they joined the National Recovery Fund (NRF) in its housing restoration efforts, when they painted two homes repaired by the NRF. Ora McField of Hapline road and Maxwell Solomon of School Road, Georgetown were the beneficiaries of their effort.

NRF's Director for Marketing and Development, Cynthia Arie, praised the volunteers for their work and thanked them for their support of the Fund.

"They have done a vital service to two of our homeowners with the donation of their time and skills," she said.

"We at NRF value this support and applaud these young people for their generosity."

While on the Island the group also provided further assistance to the NRF when they assisted them with taking inventory of its building materials at its East End storage site.

They also assisted The Young Parents Programme in moving back into their home at the Full Gospel Hall Church in West Bay, Sunrise Training Centre and the Pines.

Coordinator of Youth for Christ Cayman, Tonya Mitchell acknowledged the hard work and selfless attitude of their guests.

"These young people have been extremely willing to participate in a number of community projects and they have made a positive difference during their visit here," she said adding that YFC Cayman will be looking to host another group next year and to get more local young people working with them on a variety of community projects.

Sean Johnson, Youth Minister of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Indianapolis articulated the goals of the visiting YFC group.

"We wanted to give assistance outside of our borders because we realize that everybody has needs and people are the same everywhere," he said.
