Essay competition
Jambrac is running an essay competition for the "Independence/Emancipation weekend" celebration. Topic: "Jamaica, our Neighbour, our Friend", ages 8 - 12 yrs (100 -150 words), 13 - 17 yrs (150 -200 words). Closing date Wednesday 2 August at 6:00 pm. First prize: a bicycle (each category), second prize: $50.00 (each category), third prize: $25.00 (each category), other great prizes to be won. Winners will be announced on Saturday night 5 August at the civic Centre. Contact Georgia Isaacs for more info (948-0629).

Jamaican Independence
Saturday 5 August, 7:00 pm at the Aston Rutty Centre, Independence concert featuring "Mr and Miss Jamaica/Brac", "Junior Mr and Miss Ja/Brac", on-the-spot talent contests, plus fun and laughter with the Jambrac choral. Entry $5.00 adults, $2.00 children. Vote at the door for "the Jamaican of the Year".

Grand Emancipation Banquet
Sunday 6 August at 1:30 pm (immediately after church) at the Aston Rutty Centre. Menu: curry goat, manish water, curry chicken, fried chicken, Jerk chicken, ackee & salt fish. Tickets $10.00 available from Jambrac members. Guest speaker: Hon Kurt Tibbetts, Leader of Government Business. Proceeds in aid of the Cayman Brac Day Care Centre and the Spanish Town Infirmary in Jamaica. For more info call Georgia at 948 0629

Heritage House Happenings
"Old Caymanian Brac Homes" display by various artists continues this week. The Heritage House is open Monday through Saturday10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, closed Sundays.

Please email Lorna@caymannetnews.com or drop information off at the office in Tibbetts Square by Monday each week to have an event included in the community calendar in The Bracker and Little Caymanian.
