According to the Jamaican Information Service, (JIS) the service, organised by the Jamaican High Commission, will be held at St. Martin in the Fields in Trafalgar Square on Saturday, 5 August beginning at 11:00 am.

Rev. Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Vicar of All Saints Church, Haggerston, will deliver the sermon, while High Commissioner Gail Mathruin, will read the Prime Minister's Independence message.

Proceeds from the service will go to a basic school in St. Mary.

Meanwhile, scores of other organisations will be hosting church services across the UK this week, to mark Jamaica's Emancipation and Independence.

These include the Jamaica National Regional Association Preston, which will hold its service at the Gutteridge Methodist Church; the Institute of Jamaican Nationals in Birmingham will hold its thanksgiving service at the St. Michael's Parish Church in Handsworth, and the service of the Jamaica Society Leeds will be at St. Aidans Church.

In addition to the church services, several community organisations and groups will also be holding special Independence fundraising balls, dinners and fun days.

The popular 'Fun in the Park', Jamaica Day hosted by the Jamaica Basic School Foundation, will be held at Battersea Park in South London. The event, which attracts some 20,000 Jamaicans, friends of Jamaica and their families annually, is also part of activities to mark the association's 11th anniversary.

The Association of Jamaicans UK Trust will host its annual Independence summer ball at the Imperial Hotel in Russell Square, while the Jamaica Society Manchester will recognise and honour young people, who have done well academically and socially, at its annual dinner/dance and young achievers awards fund raising banquet.

The Jamaica National Regional Association Preston will also host a dinner dance at the Jalgo's Sports and Social Club.
