Runner Chantelle Morrison and high jumper Ashleigh Nalty have just returned from competing in the AAU Junior Olympics held at Norfolk State University in Virginia.

To qualify for the Junior Olympics Chantelle and Ashleigh had won their events at the Florida Region 4 Championship in Tallahasse, Florida in July.

In Virginia, Chantelle competed in the 100 metres, posting the fifth fastest time of 12.96 seconds in the heats. After a false start she won her semi-final, recording the second fastest time of 12.43 seconds for a place in the finals.

In the finals Chantelle drew lane five next to the top qualifier, Californian Atyiah Harvey, who had run 12.28 seconds in her semi-final. Despite getting a better start Chantelle had to settle for second place as Atyiah powered past with a time of 12.63 seconds to her 12.80 seconds. The result means that Chantelle is now ranked number two in the USA for 2006 for the 12yr old girls 100 metres.

Ashleigh entered the event ranked number five in the girls' 12 years old high jump. She cleared 5 feet, setting a personal best for the event and securing second place. Ashleigh now also ranks number 2 in the USA for her event.

Accompanying the athletes was Coach Tyrone Ken. After the competition Coach Tyrone said, "I am very impressed with the level of competition, as well as the performance of the girls as both girls competed at the highest youth level in the USA and to attain such a result is truly an amazing performance." He also thanked British American Insurance, Cayman National Bank and Mr. Bernie Bush for making this dream becoming a reality said he looked forward to their continued support for 2007.
