LETTER TO THE EDITOR

'The Personal Touch' in Cayman health care

Wednesday, August 16, 2006

Dear Sir:

My wife and I have been coming to this Island for about 20 years and in fact we now have status. I was a visiting Podiatrist with Cayman Medical and Surgical in the early 1990s and became very familiar with the Healthcare on Island.

On our most recent visit my wife was extremely ill when we arrived.

I called Dr John Addleson, a personal friend and explained her symptoms; he had her come in that day. He did a complete workup.

After about two hours he called and explained that her blood sugars were over 900 and we needed to treat her immediately and he prescribed medications.

He also said he was going to meet with a colleague, Dr. Steven Pickering and he was to ask him to see Joan as soon as possible. Dr. Pickering called us that night and appointed her for the next day.

We never met Dr. Pickering prior but I can tell you it was like we were family. That next day, he personally spent six hours with her checking and monitoring her blood sugars. He then gave us personal instructions on the insulin treatment program.

We then were given an appointment the next day to see him and a Diabetic Educator, Chad Collins, to set up her diet control.

Dr Pickering spent another 4 hours monitoring her sugars that day and Chad an hour. He and I were in touch by cell phone many times for the next three days, to monitor her sugars. After four weeks of treatments, she is now somewhat under control, as far as her sugar levels.

The Diabetic Educator, Chad was also very personable and extremely thorough. He had his own system and also stayed in contact by e-mail on his vacation.

We are so happy to be here, in Cayman. We just wanted to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to these professionals. We are lucky to have "The Personal Touch" available to us.

Stan and Joan Rosen
